AUTUMN-WINTER FOX PHOTOGRAPHY

INTERESTED IN PHOTOGRAPHING WILD FOXES THIS AUTUMN AND WINTER?

NOW TAKING BOOKINGS FOR December 2025 - End of FEBRUARY 2026
PLANNING AHEAD FOR 2026?...BOOKINGS ALSO NOW BEING TAKEN FOR SPRING AND SUMMER 2025
HIDE IS CURRENTLY OPEN

Working in collaboration with Tom Way Photography I am delighted to announce that I will be running my own Fox photography sessions at this excellent hide for the foreseeable future. Tom's safari tours have expanded, and, as he is away in Africa for most of the spring, summer, and now into the autumn and winter, so I have stepped up to run the hide. Having run this hide, and guided for Tom on many occasions in the past - not to mention running my own hides, I bring a wealth of knowledge gained through well over twenty five years of observing and photographing wildlife, which I hope will help contribute to a successful Fox photography experience.

Well, What can I say! What a phenomenal spring and summer of fox photography we have had this year yet again!
With a 100% record of active fox sessions to date, our clients were treated to an incredible amount of activity, one of the best years we have had - but don't take my word for it - check out my Guestbook for real reviews from real people!
With the foxes still active, we will continue to offer the hide throughout the autumn and winter months - basically, if there is enough activity, we will be open for bookings.
The hide itself is well established and set on private land in South Buckinghamshire, in its own meadow. The hide has been sunken into the ground to allow photographers the ability to photograph these stunning animals at their level whilst being seated comfortably in this large, and spacious four person hide. Each seating position has one-way glass allowing you see what is going on in the meadow without the Foxes being able to see into the hide, and has its own port with camouflage lens snoot to shoot through. Each position also has its own sturdy shelf. Tripods are not necessary for this hide as my custom made hide plates are provided for you to use - please note you will need to bring along your preferred gimbal, ball or equivalent head along with a compatible lens foot plate (usually the Arca Swiss type) with you too. High quality beanbags are also provided if you would prefer to use them instead. There is no hand holding of lenses required.
New for this year is the addition of a chemical toilet for your comfort too.

Being able to offer the hide through the winter months enables us to photograph the foxes when they look their best, they will have grown their thick winter coats and the soft winter light can be fantastic! With the chance of hard frosts, and hopefully some snow this will add something absolutely magical to your images.
ALL WINTER SESSIONS RUN FROM 8AM UNTIL DUSK

PLANNING AHEAD FOR 2026?... NO PROBLEM - BOOKINGS ALSO NOW BEING TAKEN FOR SPRING AND SUMMER 2026

Equipment wise, to get the best out of this hide, you will need a DSLR or Mirrorless camera, either with a full frame or crop sensor and any lens in the 300mm-600mm focal length range, with 400mm being optimal - ideally with a fast maximum aperture of F2.8 or F4. I personally use a Canon full frame mirrorless camera with either a Canon 600mm F4L IS MK2, or a Canon 200-400F4L IS with built in 1.4X extender. Zoom lenses like a Canon 100-500, Canon 200-400, Nikon 200-500, Nikon 180-600, Sony 200-600 and the Olympus and Tamron equivalents will also be perfect too and give great flexibility. Don't forget spare, fully charged batteries and spare memory cards too, plus it is also worth bringing a 1.4X teleconverter along if you have one. Please note this hide is not suitable for compact or bridge cameras.
For Canon users, I am also able to provide my 600mm F4L IS mk2 lens plus a 1.4X extender or, for more flexibility, my 200-400 F4L IS + 1.4x extender if required for you to hire for your session at an extra cost, please check the availability for this service at the time of your enquiry.

Not only do we see several different Foxes coming into the meadow, we also get some terrific opportunities to photograph other species too. Over the last few years Red Kites and Common Buzzard have become a fantastic addition to the wildlife that visits the meadow, and are great to photograph at ground level as they search for scraps - very often they will defend anything they find vigorously.

Please remember, you will be photographing rural Foxes which are more wary than their urban cousins - along with wary birds of prey, so they will all require patience and very good, disciplined hide craft to achieve the best results. Please also be aware that when booking autumn and winter sessions the foxes can be less active than they are during the summer months, this is mostly because they are no longer feeding youngsters. Both Tom and I have worked hard to provide a working hide for photographers and we hope that you have a great time photographing the wildlife here, and, hopefully leave with some memorable images. But please accept that these are wary, wild animals, they do not appear on demand and there are absolutely no guarantees.

Cost for the hide has been kept the same as last year at £150 per person with a maximum of four photographers in the hide on any session plus myself as your guide, and although this is not a full on tuition session, I will be on hand to help with your photography as much or as little as required.
Obviously, with the change of clocks at the end of October, we have brought the meet/start time forwards. Our aim is to give you at least 6 hours photographic opportunity so....
During November we will meet at 9AM
During December and January we will meet at 8AM
All sessions will end, usually by mutual agreement from all participants, around dusk or when the light has failed.
So, if your are interested in booking a place in this excellent hide please get in touch with me here on my contact page to arrange a booking.
Thank you for your interest in the Fox Hide and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
